A Quantitative First Step in Allergy Workups
When a dog presents with chronic itching and dermatitis, confirm if an allergic response is underway. Our quantitative Total IgE test provides a baseline measure of allergic sensitivity to support a diagnosis of atopy.

Immunoglobulin E (IgE) is the primary antibody responsible for Type I hypersensitivity reactions that characterize most allergies. The Tashikin Total IgE test quantifies the overall level of IgE in a dog's circulation. While not specific to any single allergen, an elevated Total IgE level is a strong indicator of a hypersensitivity disorder, such as atopic dermatitis. This test serves as a valuable initial screening tool to confirm an allergic etiology for clinical signs like pruritus, otitis, and pyoderma.
Your Path to Clarifying Allergic Disease:
Screen Pruritic Dogs
The ideal starting point for any dog presenting with non-seasonal itching, recurrent skin infections, or signs of atopy.
Confirm an Allergic State
Use an elevated Total IgE result to confirm that an allergic or hypersensitivity reaction is the likely cause of clinical signs.
Justify Further Testing
A positive result provides a clear rationale to proceed with more advanced diagnostics like allergen-specific IgE serology or intradermal testing.

Provides a reliable indicator of a dog's general allergic state, supporting the clinical diagnosis and guiding decisions for further allergen-specific testing.
Prepare Sample
Prepare canine serum or plasma from a whole blood sample according to standard laboratory procedures.
Add Sample
Using a micropipette, add exactly 75µL of the serum or plasma into the sample well of the test cassette.
Add Buffer
Add 2 drops of the provided assay buffer into the same well and start the timer immediately.
Read Result
At 15 minutes, insert the cassette into the Tashikin FIA Analyzer to obtain the quantitative Total IgE result.
Track and Manage Long-Term Allergy Cases
Allergy management is a marathon, not a sprint. By tracking Total IgE levels over time in VetEx.ai, you can monitor a patient's response to immunotherapy or other long-term treatments, helping to visualize progress and adjust protocols for better outcomes.
