The Tashikin T4 Test is the cornerstone of veterinary thyroid diagnostics. Measuring total thyroxine (T4) is the single most important screening test for thyroid disease in both dogs and cats. A low T4 in a dog with clinical signs is highly suggestive of hypothyroidism, while a high T4 is diagnostic for hyperthyroidism in cats. This rapid, in-clinic quantitative test provides immediate results, allowing for faster diagnosis, treatment initiation, and therapeutic monitoring.
Your Path to Efficient Thyroid Management:
Screen Symptomatic Pets
The essential test for dogs with weight gain and lethargy, or cats with weight loss and polyphagia.
Monitor Therapy
Objectively assess a hypothyroid dog's response to levothyroxine supplementation by ensuring T4 levels are within the therapeutic range.
Enhance Senior Wellness
Incorporate into routine senior pet wellness panels for early detection of thyroid disease before severe clinical signs develop.

Prepare Sample
Prepare canine or feline serum or plasma from a whole blood sample according to standard laboratory procedures.
Add Sample
Using a micropipette, add exactly 100µL of the serum or plasma into the sample well of the test cassette.
Add Buffer
Add 2 drops of the provided assay buffer into the same well and start the timer immediately.
Read Result
At 10 minutes, insert the cassette into the Tashikin FIA Analyzer to obtain the quantitative T4 result.
Track Therapeutic Levels for Optimal Dosing
Managing a hypothyroid dog requires careful dose titration. By logging serial T4 measurements in VetEx.ai, you can easily visualize the patient's response to therapy over time, helping you fine-tune the medication dosage and maintain the patient in a healthy, euthyroid state.
