When a dog presents with coughing or dyspnea, get a clear answer. This quantitative NT-proBNP test measures myocardial stretch, helping you confidently determine if the heart is the cause.

The Tashikin Canine NT-proBNP Test is an essential blood test for any dog with suspected heart disease. NT-proBNP is released from heart muscle cells in response to stretching and strain. A normal level has a high negative predictive value, making significant heart disease an unlikely cause of clinical signs. Conversely, elevated levels are a strong indicator of underlying heart disease, helping to differentiate cardiac from respiratory causes of coughing and dyspnea, stage the severity of conditions like MVD, and assess the risk of congestive heart failure (CHF).
Your Path to a Confident Cardiac Workup:
Investigate Respiratory Signs
The ideal test for a coughing or dyspneic dog to rapidly assess if the heart is the primary cause, guiding your next steps (radiographs vs. other diagnostics).
Stage Asymptomatic Murmurs
For a dog with a newly discovered heart murmur, an NT-proBNP level helps determine the hemodynamic significance and urgency for an echocardiogram.
Monitor Therapy Response
Track NT-proBNP levels over time to objectively monitor a patient's response to cardiac medications and the progression of their disease.

Performance validated against reference laboratory immunoassays, ensuring reliable results for staging and diagnosing heart disease.
Prepare Sample
Prepare canine serum or plasma from a whole blood sample according to standard laboratory procedures.
Add Sample
Using a micropipette, add exactly 100µL of the serum or plasma into the sample well of the test cassette.
Add Buffer
Add 2 drops of the provided assay buffer into the same well and start the timer immediately.
Read Result
At 10 minutes, insert the cassette into the Tashikin FIA Analyzer to obtain the quantitative NT-proBNP result.
Track Cardiac Health Through a Patient's Lifetime
Managing chronic heart disease is a journey. By logging and plotting serial NT-proBNP results in VetEx.ai, you create a clear, visual timeline of a patient's cardiac health. This is invaluable for making informed adjustments to therapy and for communicating the progression of the disease to clients.
